Procedural Control in Vernon Activities allows you to set up statuses that reflect your institution's procedures for different Activities. For example, inward loans at your institution may go through a 'life cycle' including the following possible stages:
oconsidered loan
oloan approved
oobject(s) received
oobject(s) returned
oloan renewed
Procedural Control consists of the steps, rules and reports that make up this life cycle. This is done using the Procedural Status authority file, which is unique for each Activity datafile. You can configure these authority files to determine an appropriate and logical chain of events for this life cycle at your institution. When you're working with an Activity record, you can move it through its life cycle by saving it at different procedural statuses.
As part of the implementation of Vernon Activities, it is vital for you to review your internal procedures and work out how they can be reflected in Procedural Control in each Activity file that you will be using.
