Backing up the System

Scroll More

Back up your Vernon CMS daily so that if a hardware failure or natural disaster occurs you can restore your system. The daily backups should be kept as an archive. Backing up, storing, and testing your system should be part of your institution's Disaster Preparedness plan.

Back up Vernon CMS by copying the Wincoll folder to external hard drives, CDs, or web-based cloud file storage.

It is good practice to store your backup copies off-site in case on-site backups and computers are destroyed or made inaccessible in an event such as a fire.

You should keep a backup of every month you have had Vernon CMS.

Testing your backup copy

It is important to test your backups. If your backup copy is corrupt, you will not be able to use it to restore the system.

1.Save a copy of the backup Wincoll folder to the local drive of your workstation.

2.Open the Wincoll folder and locate the file titled OINSIGHT.exe. Double click on this .exe file to launch Vernon CMS.

3.Enter your usual login details.

4.Check your data and test that the system behaves as expected.

5.If you are satisfied the backup is a functional copy of your system, close the program and remove the backup copy from your workstation.

If the backup copy is not working properly, please backup your live system immediately.
