This is where you define how you want the measurement to appear on screen and in reports.
For example, you can specify that measurements are to be displayed in inches (e.g. 14in) or in feet and inches (e.g. 2ft 2in), in centimetres (e.g. 123cm) or in metres and centimetres (e.g. 1m 23cm).
You can also specify whether you want the measurements displayed only in one unit of measure (e.g. only in the Imperial system) or in a primary system followed by a secondary (e.g. Imperial system followed by metric in parenthesis).
To enter display units
Primary and Secondary Display Units are authority controlled fields and are pre-stocked with terms for basic units of measure such as Inch, Centimetre, Millimetre, etc.
Only the Primary Display Unit is compulsory.
Simply enter the term (or its System ID) in the field if you know it. If you enter the term incorrectly, or if there is more than one matching term, the Authority Search window will appear, allowing you to select or search for a term.
You can also click on the Options button to select a term if terms have already been created, or follow instructions for creating, editing or deleting hierarchical authority terms as required.
If you leave the Secondary Display Unit field blank, your measurements will be displayed only in the Primary Display Unit you have specified.
However, when displaying the Measurement Reading, the system can also show it in a secondary System of Measurement in parentheses following the Primary display, e.g. 3ft 3in (1 m).
Enter the Secondary Display Unit you require in the Secondary Display Unit field (e.g. if your Primary display is in Inches, you might enter Centimetres as your secondary display unit).
Entering Centimetre as your Display Unit (whether primary or secondary) will give you a display measurement only in centimetres (e.g. 103cm). If you prefer this to be displayed as 1m 3cm, enter Meter on line one of the Display Unit field and Centimeter on line two of the Display unit field.
The same would be true of inches or any other unit of measure you might specify. For example if you enter only Inch as the display unit, a measurement of 14 inches will be shown as '14in'. If you enter Feet on line one and Inch on line two of the Display Unit field, 14 inches will be displayed as '2ft 2in'.
Even if you specify a primary and secondary system for display on screen, the Reporting window offers you to opportunity to override these original settings for each report. Measurement is one of the fields with multiple display variations for reporting, and you can chose to display measurement in the primary system only, secondary system only, primary and secondary.
