The Measurement Type you enter in the Measurement Type field controls the type of data that will be accepted by the associated Measurement Reading field. It also controls the way that data will be displayed on screen and in reports, and the way it is indexed for retrieval. For example, if a measurement type of "height" is used, the default units for the height type will be used, for example centimeters.

To create Measurement Type terms:

1.Click in the Measurement Type field and click the Options button Button Options or press [Alt+Down Arrow] to access the Authority Search window.

2.Click the Create New Authority Term button CreNew.bmp

The data entry window for the Measurement Type Authority will appear.

3.        Enter the name of the measurement type (e.g. Dimensions, Weight, Volume, etc.) and enter data in the remaining compulsory fields which are Storage Unit, Primary Display Unit and Aspect Delimiters.

4.        Click save Book Indexand then close the window.

 

The Measurement Type term you created will now be available. When you enter a term in the Measurement Type field, the way in which data is entered and displayed in the Measurement Reading field will now be controlled by the specifications you entered while creating the term.

 

Display options:

Primary best fit unit
Select this option to display measurements in their primary unit only. For example, if you entered a measurement of 1.24m, it would display as "1.24m" instead of "1M 24cm".

Secondary best fit unit
Select this option to display measurements in their secondary unit only.

Show zero value
Select this option if you want to zero measures to be displayed. For example, a temperature of 0°C, a depth of 0m, or in coordinates.

Force zero units
Select this option if you want to units that are zero to be displayed. For example, where you are recording Degrees, Minutes, and Seconds, and one of the units may be zero.
