The Signature/Marks field is used to record the of exact text of any signature or inscription, and/or to record a description of a maker's mark or other mark.
For example, for an actual signature or inscription you might record 'G. Preston '87' or 'For my beloved', exactly as it appears on the object, while for a maker's mark stamped into the bottom of a porcelain plate, you might record your own description, e.g., 'Four-pointed crown with the letters GB below'.

Searching
Search this field with 'All Text' in Advanced Search, or use a Select Statement.
Reporting
Select 'Signature/Marks (full details Y display only)' in reporting, to report on only the rows that have the Display marked as 'yes'.
Select 'Signature/Marks (full details Y&N display)' in reporting to report on all rows.
Sorting is not available for this field.
