Inward Rights, Reproduction & Use can be considered the opposite of the Outward Rights, Reproduction & Use activity. It is used to record rights sold or granted to your organisation by another party. For example, you may have a contemporary artwork in your collection for which you do not hold the copyright. The artist or copyright holder may grant you the rights to reproduce an image of the artwork in a print publication, such as an exhibition catalogue. Inward Rights enables you to record the details of this agreement/licence.
Procedural Status can record whether this is a requested, current, declined or expired right. You will need to periodically search for Inward Rights records past their end date, so you can renegotiate rights or update the status.
There are also fields for recording research into copyright ownership, as this is an important part of deciding whether a work can be considered orphaned. These fields are in the Administration & Research tab.
Multiple copyright owners and/or agents (as well as other parties) can be recorded in the Other Party table.
Note: A list of all Inward Rights records relating to a single object can be viewed from the Object record. This information can be found in the Related Inward Rights tab of the Object Acquisition, Provenance & Rights data entry window.
