Required (Accession Number Format)

Scroll More

WHAT IT'S USED FOR:

This defines whether or not a segment is mandatory in this accession number format.  Often accession number formats have optional elements, particularly for the finer elements of the format.

For example, you may have a format with the structure 'YYYY.sequence.subsequence,sub-subsequence.alpha', with only 'YYYY' and the sequence as mandatory elements, the others being optional. Flagging the 'YYYY' and 'sequence' as Required will allow you to enter the following range of accession numbers, for example:

o1999.123.1.1a

o1999.123.1.1

o1999.123.1a

o1999.123.1

o1999.123a

o1999.123

WHERE TO FIND IT:

The Definition Page of the Accession Number Formats window

HOW TO USE IT:

Required is a protected field.  You can only enter Yes or No ('No' is implied if the field is blank).

Enter 'y' or 'Yes' in this field for any segments that are mandatory in accession numbers with this format.  Leave this field blank for any segments which are not required for an accession number to be valid for this format.

If you are unfamiliar with edit tables it is very important to read about them before attempting to edit this field.
