Creating Authority Terms

Scroll More

You can create new Authority terms for simple, hierarchical, and complex Authorities.

Create an Authority Term

1.Check that the term you want to create doesn't already exist. Click into the field you want to use the term in and enter the term. If there are possible alternate spellings, try them too. If no term is found, a pop up will appear saying the term is not a valid authority term. Click OK.

2.If the term doesn't exist, you can create it. Click into the empty field where you want the new term, and click the Open Related Datafile button crebutt.

3.In the blank window that appears, enter the details of your term.
If you are creating a term that is part of a hierarchical authority, make sure that you fill in the Next Higher Term field (unless it will be the top term), so that the system places your new term in the correct position in the hierarchy. If you are adding a term to the middle of a hierarchy, make sure that you then edit the term below it, adding your new term as its Next Higher Term.

4.Save the record, and close the window. Your new term will now appear in the field.
