WHAT IT'S USED FOR:
Segments within accession number formats may express a range of values. For any such segments, Ranges must be specifically allowed.
For example, in the accession number '1989/123/a-d' the last segment may express a range of items (a-d) in the accession '1989/123'. If you allow Ranges for this format, when you search for '1989/123/d' (or '1989/123/a' or '1989/123/b' or '1989/123/c') you will find the record '1989/123/a-d'.
WHERE TO FIND IT:
The Definition Page of the Accession Number Formats window
HOW TO USE IT:
Ranges is a protected field. You can only enter Yes or No ('No' is implied if the field is blank).
Enter 'y' or 'Yes' in this field for any of the segments in this format for which ranges are allowed. Leave this field blank for any segments in which a range should not be allowed.
If you specify Ranges for more than one segment in the format, you must also tick the Double Ranges check-box for that format.
Note that you must also enter Range delimiters if you enter 'Yes' in the Ranges field for any segment in a format.
If you are unfamiliar with edit tables it is very important to read about them before attempting to edit this field.
