Sometimes your security needs extend beyond the three Groups provided by Vernon CMS. You can create as many new Groups as you need.
1.Go to Tools menu > System Maintenance > Security Tool > Groups.
2.Type in a new Group name into the Name field. This name could reflect a job position, or what Group members are allowed to (e.g. Location Movers).
3.You can add Users to your Group by clicking the Add button.
The Group window with Add button for adding Users to a Group.
This will open a list of your Users. Click on the Users you would like to have in the Group and click OK.
4.Decide which Groups are above and below your Groups in the hierarchy (See Planning Your Security Setup). Groups with less rights in Vernon CMS (than the current Group) are linked as Subordinate Groups. Groups with more rights in Vernon CMS (than the current Group) are linked as Superior Groups.
5.Click Add next to each of these fields to open a list of Groups to choose from. Click on the Groups and click OK.
Your Group will automatically inherit any rights from linked Subordinate Groups.
So if Cataloguers have Public as a Subordinate Group, they can do everything the Public Group can do For example, view records but not edit records. You would then edit the Cataloguer Group's Security Rights to allow them to edit.
6.Save the record.
